John Barnard has been an inspiration to furniture designers and makers for a generation or more. Giving freely of his time to young aspirants and old hands alike is a characteristic of this iconic figure that all who have come into contact with him will readily recognize.

In recent times, young filmmakers at Norwich City College of Higher Education asked to make a film that honoured John and at the same time gave them direct experience of expressing a story through film. The choice was to visit the shores in North Norfolk where Horatio Nelson played as a boy. Here you see the students' film, featuring the Victory chair designed by John to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
