"What a triumph!... the cellar entrance, the island waterworks, the elm top, the subtle functional curves, the magic cupboard, the open shelves, the long handles and drawers - every part of it a delight. And finally the wild timber ring handle for Ros on the cellar steps! We're so glad we found you"... John
And finally…..
"We commissioned our first kitchen from John in 1998. Before meeting him, and even as we sat in our flat getting to know each other, we'd questioned whether it really was a good idea to buy a bespoke kitchen at all. Why not go to a good quality (and cheaper) mass manufacturer, there were more and more of them every day. Ten years, two kitchens and a bathroom later, we can tell you why...John's a fantastic designer - expert, confidence-inspiring, gifted. He's also a brilliant listener and observer. He 'gets' what you talk about, even if your ideas are changeable, semi-formed and vague. He entered into a relationship with our project which was all about helping us to express ourselves happily through the place we live in - I've never enjoyed cooking as much as I do in the clever, comfortable, creative kitchens we built. He's flexible, open to ideas, sets very high standards. And he delivers. The finished product is not only beautiful - it stands the tests of time, life and use with reassuring consistency, ten years later. Finally, John's fun... as well as very, very serious about what he builds. He also means it when he says he cares about customer satisfaction. Our first kitchen was still at an early stage when he realised he'd wildly misquoted for the cost of a beautiful, exotic veneer we'd chosen for the cabinets. He telephoned and confessed that the veneer we'd set our hearts on was three or four times the price quoted, adding several hundred pounds to the overall cost. He knew the limits of our budget. He also knew that the veneer was the key - the centrepiece of the design. So he suggested we split the difference rather than compromise it. It doesn't get better than this"...EA
